Rush Warming Center

Takeout 25 was contacted by the Oak Park Homelessness Coalition to partner with Housing Forward, Village of Oak Park, Illinois Emergency Response Team, and Rush Oak Park Hospital to help people experiencing homelessness get through the harsh winter months. Rush Oak Park Hospital has set up a warming center onsite for this effort. Takeout 25, in partnership with local restaurants and Delivery First, will deliver food twice a day (breakfast & dinner) through the coldest months.

First Taste the Town

February 23rd, 2021

The first Taste the Town event focused on reflecting Housing Forward’s (an event partner) mission of addressing homelessness and food insecurity.  It drew a crowd of hundreds to The Nineteenth Century Club (a partner alongside Byline Bank and Housing Forward) to receive a drive-thru style delivery of their “ultimate take-out bag”, consisting of items from nine different restaurants.

Second Taste the Town

April 22nd, 2021

Takeout 25 showcased its steps towards its new mission of sustainability at the Oak Park Main Library. A collective of OPRF high school students with the group Clean Up Give Back (CUGB - OPRF Chapter) collected over 700 pounds of plastic waste from our community between mid-March and mid-June. As part of a program by Trex, a plastic upcycling company, these plastics were consolidated at the local Jewel Osco and sent to Trex. For every 500 pounds of plastics collected Trex would give an upcycled plastic bench in return. Takeout 25 is partnering with CUGB to donate a received bench to the OP Library Main branch to be placed in the lobby.

Third Taste the Town

June 24th, 2021

Taste the Town 3 focused its efforts exclusively on Austin/Galewood. Partnering with New Moms, an amazing non-profit that helps young moms navigate a very vulnerable period in their lives to a place of stability, Takeout 25 as well as participating restaurants repeated the ticketing and ultimate grab bag efforts like they have in the previous two events. Two great causes were behind the event:  (1) Helping our local restaurants survive and thrive, and (2) Helping New Moms offer support and stability to young mothers.
